REZ: grid constraints and insights

The timing or new volumes, commitment to infrastructure upgrades and the policy for access and market integration are key to development of Renewable Energy Zones (REZs)and the continued integration of wind and solar across the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Cornwall Insight’s experts take a look at the development of REZs across the NEM. We review the volumes expected to enter these zones and their ability to integrate new generation capacity before reaching saturation. We also analyse the access options being proposed by each of the States (including potential state based policies) and the Energy Security Board and whether there are sufficient processes in place to protect and incentivise REZ development.
